How to prevent electric wires and cables from catching fire

Wire and cable refer to materials used for power, electrical, and related transmission purposes. There is no strict boundary between "wires" and "cables". On weekdays, products with fewer cores, smaller product diameters, and simpler layouts are called wires, those without insulation are called bare wires, and others are called cables. So, in this way, wires and cables are extremely prone to overheating and overload. So how to prevent wires and cables from catching fire due to overload? Let me inform you below.

1. The construction quality, especially the production quality of cable heads, must strictly comply with the prescribed requirements.


2. Stop cable testing on schedule and promptly address any issues with the invention.


3. Install a fire alarm immediately to prevent cable fires.


4. Cable trenches should be kept dry to prevent cables from getting damp, resulting in reduced insulation and causing short circuits.


5. Strengthen the supervision of cable operation to avoid overloading of cables.


6. Occasionally clean the dust accumulated on the cable to avoid spontaneous combustion of the accumulated dust that may cause the cable to catch fire.


7. Strengthen the regular verification and protection of cable circuit switches and covers, ensuring that their measures are reliable.


8. When laying cables, it is necessary to maintain sufficient distance from the heat pipe and control the cables to be at least 0.5 meters; Energy cable ≥ 1 meter.


Control cables and energy cables should be arranged in separate slots, layers, and separated from each other, and it is not possible to stack and shelve them between layers.


For areas that do not comply with regulations, cables should be flame-retardant and insulated.


9. Equip necessary firefighting equipment and measures. The commonly used fire extinguishing equipment can be used to stop the fire fighting of extruded cables, but active or remote fire extinguishing equipment should be installed at cable interlayer, shaft, trench and tunnel, such as 1301 fire extinguishing equipment, water spray fire extinguishing equipment, etc.


10. Adopt fire-resistant and flame-retardant measures.


The steps for fire prevention and flame retardancy of cables include:


(1) Apply fireproof coating on the outside of the cable.


(2) Wrap the fire-resistant parts of the cable with fire-resistant tape.


(3) Seal the holes where cables pass through walls, trays, and vertical shafts with fire-resistant materials thoroughly to prevent the spread and expansion of low-temperature smoke when cables catch fire.


(4) Install heat-resistant fire-resistant boards, partition walls, and fire doors between cable layers to prevent inter layer fire and expand the fire situation.


(5) Wrap the cable with insulation and fire-resistant materials. When the surrounding area of the cable catches fire, the wrapped cable can be cut off from the fire by the insulation and fire-resistant materials to avoid destruction. If the cable itself catches fire, the lack of oxygen in the wrapping body can extinguish the fire on its own, preventing the fire from spreading outside the wrapping body.
